2023 Herbal Day Program, For Kids!

 
 
 

The Boston School of Herbal Studies is excited to offer an immersive Herbal Summer Program for children!

Here is an opportunity to provide your children an education about the plants that grow all around us, while gaining a deeper appreciation for nature. Once children learn about the benefits of what most people consider weeds, they begin to see the world differently, and learn all things that grow are special! We’re planning an exciting program this year! Below you’ll find some of the activities covered. For a complete syllabus click here: check it out !

  • Identification of the plants growing on Sweet Autumn Farm

  • Respectful harvesting of medicinal herbs to be used for activities. 

  • Making elderberry syrup, the identification of elder, its benefits, and use.

  • Making salve while learning about its ingredients and the roles they play in the healing process.

  • Making herbal treats

  • Aromatherapy

  • Making herbal teas

  • Nature inspired meditation, yoga, and mindful outdoor practices. 
       

This is the second year The Boston School is offering an Herbal Summer Program for children. This 3-day program is designed to introduce children ages 8-12 to the word of herbs, their benefits, and their uses. It provides an opportunity for children to deepen their relationship with the natural world through plant identification, herbal medicine making, nature walks, and plant-based art projects. 

Nature has a positive and lasting impact on our physical, mental, and emotional health. This herbal program provides a safe, inclusive environment for children to learn about plants, discover the wonders of nature, and deepen their respect for the Earth and its inhabitants.

Friday and Saturday, we meet at Sweet Autumn Farm. This beautiful 18-acre organic farm in Carlisle is woman owned and operated complete with a farm stand, and chickens! Sunday will be held at our affiliate program location Bear Medicine Holistic Services in Lincoln.

Dates: Friday- Sunday August 25-27
Time: 10am-3pm

Cost: $300 for the 3-day weekend

 Teacher Bio’s

Megan Powers

Megan Powers has been creating and teaching children’s camps for over 2 decades! As a lifelong gymnast, gymnastic coach, and yoga teacher of all ages, she brings a kinesthetic understanding about the importance of body movement and awareness to everything she does.

As a certified herbalist and aromatherapist Megan is able to weave the beauty of plants and all their benefits together with movement and breathe work, enabling all those fortunate enough to study with her the ability to connect with their bodies, reduce anxiety, and find the inner peace necessary to manage life’s challenges.

Megan’s deep love for children provides the support needed for children and teens to feel empowered, to be their authentic selves, regardless of gender, background, or societal pressures. Her enthusiasm is infectious, and brings joy to all her teachings!

Megan is certified in 1st aid, CPR, as a teacher of yoga for children and adults, as well as a practitioner of Reiki. After gaining her certification as an herbalist and aromatherapist Meghan went on to create her own product line Artisan Apothecary, which allows her to help others through her knowledge of herbs and essential oils. 

Megan has 2 beautiful children who she enjoys hiking and camping with, she understands that “When children take time to breathe and connect to their bodies and nature, it has a positive impact on behavior, mood, and focus. It provides the foundation forconfidence, self-awareness, and an awareness of inner and outer strength”.

Dominique Ross

With over a decade of working with children as a school counselor, Dominique brings a deep level of compassion and skill to her work. She understands the importance and need to help our youth reduce stress and anxiety, and she has the gift of helping them find their voice and discover their truth.

Her experience as an herbalist and teacher for The Boston School of Herbal Studies provides the foundation necessary to share information about plants in ways that are thorough and inspiring. This along with her knowledge gained as a certified aromatherapist provides Dominique with the ability to combine these tools in ways that allow her to work with people on the many levels required to gain health, happiness, and balance. She understands the importance of reconnecting people to nature and the healing it promotes.

Dominique’s desire to help others has inspired her to become a clinical herbalist, Reiki Master, a Spiritual Life Coach, and to learn hand analysis. She is certified in 1st aid, CPR, and has a master’s in school counseling. 

Dominique currently works for The Boston School of Herbals Studies where her impeccable soft skills enable her to interact with all levels and ages of students, and to create an atmosphere of inclusiveness and community. Her organizational proficiency brings a higher level of functioning and stability to everything.

When not teaching she spends her time raising her 2 young two daughters, and tending her herb garden where she grows medicinal herbs to help her family and community remain healthy.
