A great deal of information flowing into the human body enters the heart first and is then sent to the brain allowing for a neural dialogue between heart and mind. The heart, according to Chinese Medicine, contains the shen, the spirit of enlightened consciousness, inspiration, insight and memory. Chronic stress leads to disturbed shen, a pervasive problem in this culture. The consequences include lack of intimacy, insomnia, mood imbalances and issue with concentration. In this class, we will explore shen tonics to balance the heart/mind dialogue, strengthen intuition and memory, enhance alignment with ourselves and improve the quality of sleep.
