Boston School of Herbal Studies

The Boston School of Herbal Studies (BSHS) is committed to providing high quality, affordable herbal education in an urban setting. We believe that health care must consider the whole person; body, mind, spirit, environment and community. BSHS promotes the world of healing plants in our urban community. In so doing, we support rehabilitation of plant and animal species in order to restore the integrity of our bioregion.

The Boston School of Herbal Studies offers Herbal Apprenticeships, Advanced Training, Herbal Clinics, Medicinal Plant Walks and a variety of classes and workshops. We are located in Arlington and Watertown, Massachusetts, and utilize home gardens, and the many parks and community gardens around us for teaching. We have an extensive library on herbal medicine. Our school utilizes ancestral wisdom, ecological sustainability, ethnic/gender equality and feminist principles.

Our apprenticeship is seven months long and meets one weekend a month. For more information, please visit our Apprentice page.

Our classes are diverse and exciting. Our core teachers, Madelon Hope, M.Ed., LMHC, Clinical Herbalist and Tommy Priester, Clinical Herbalist teach the seven month Herbal Apprenticeships, the Advanced Training and various workshops and classes. Please visit our Faculty page for more information.
